A little bit about my practice

My counseling work is informed strongly by narrative therapy, a strengths perspective, and the core values of social work practice, which include service, social justice, dignity and worth of a person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence.

I view the counseling relationship as a partnership, where we can co-create change. During counseling sessions, I am interested in having people identify the things that are bothering them, the impact these problems are having on their lives, and what they would like to see differently in the future. I am curious to know what holds meaning for people. What are someone’s beliefs and values? What is important to them? Are the problems in conflict with their values and beliefs? I want to hear the stories of someone’s life, of who they are, and how they have made it through life’s journey thus far. I encourage a mindful approach to life and also offer concrete ideas and suggestions for cognitive and behavioral change.

I take pride in this community and have much respect and admiration for the people I meet. I find my work with people to be very inspiring and am grateful to be able to serve this community.
